Computed Tomography

Building a picture

Computed tomography, (aka CT) combines data from several X-rays to produce a detailed image of structures inside the body.

Series of narrow beams emitted through the body as it moves through an arc whereas an x-ray sends just one radiation beam.

More detailed than an X-ray; less detailed than an MRI.

  • Mainly used to diagnose conditions in bones and soft tissues
  • Takes a 360 degree image
  • More powerful than X-rays
  • Usage of radiation to create images
